The British trio recruit American rapper Missy Elliott as well as sampling and interpolating her 2002 hit “Work It.”  The group built the song around Missy’s iconic lines from her 2002 single, which are included on the chorus of “Fly Girl.” The girls celebrate indenpendency and not needing a man for a fun night out. Sonicly, as they’ve described, it’s a perfect fusion of old-school and modern R&B accompanied with UK’s girl group big sounding choruses mastered by MNEK, who has also produced the track.

Following the release of FLO’s debut single, “Cardboard Box,” the group were garnered with praise from artists of the names of SZA, JoJo, Victoria Monet and Missy Elliott herself, who showed love back and forth with the group.

Many figures reacted to “Fly Girl,” including Halle Berry, who was given a shout out on Missy’s verse, and Ariana Grande, who used the song audio on a TikTok promoting her beauty brand.
